Garhwa (Jharkhand), Jan 21 (ANI): At least 13 policemen were killed and two others got injured when suspected Maoists blew up their vehicle in the jungles of Bariganwa in Jharkhand's Garhwa District on Saturday.

According to certain media reports, the incident took place when the policemen were entering into the forest area for inspection.

Additional police forces have been rushed to the spot in the wake of the incident.

Despite strong initiatives taken by the Centre, the Maoist insurgency has gripped nearly one-third of the country, spreading into the interiors of 20 states of the country.

Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram has termed the left-wing extremism to be a bigger challenge than terrorism, and said that the people at large need to understand that the rebels are involved in cases of human rights violation. (ANI)
