Shutdown in Sikkim against Shiv Sena

Tue, 01 Jan 2008 ANI

Gangtok, Sept 29 (ANI): The day-long shutdown called by the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) and other political parties paralysed normal life throughout the state today

The SDF called for 12-hour shutdown to protest the burning of the effigy of Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling by Shiv Sena activists, while the Congress and the Sikkim Himali Rajya Parishad Party (SHRPP) have given a shutdown call to protest against the alleged "misrule" of the SDF Government.

Vehicles were off the road and shops and business establishments down their shutters due to shutdown.

The Congress and the SHRPP also alleged that the SDF government has diluted the old laws of Sikkim and not reserved seats of the tribal communities Limboo and Tamang in the state legislature. (ANI)
