Rajkot, Nov.29 (ANI): Students from both rural and urban areas are learning French through video-conferencing under the 'Connecting Classrooms' project of the British Council in Gujarat's Rajkot city.

The British Council is financing the project in which a total of 167 schools of India, United Kingdom and Sri Lanka are involved.

Under this programme, eight schools of Rajkot city have been selected.

"Under this project, in February 2010, four teachers from the cluster of selected eight schools of Rajkot went to the UK and teachers from four schools of UK came to Rajkot in October 2010,"said Sonal Shah, coordinator and felicitator of Connecting Classrooms project.

Students are also showing their support by taking deep interest in learning French language.

"We are having a French seminar in our school. A teacher from the UK was teaching us French. Generally, in our school we talk in English and Hindi but after this seminar we will be able to talk in French as well. We are finding the French language interesting," said Shreya Marsoniya, a student.

The teachers added that there are very few classes where French is taught and those are expensive. The Connecting Classrooms project would provide the students with this facility free of cost in their own schools. By Parish (ANI)
