Ex-Pak lawmaker calls on India and Pakistan to undertake visa reforms

Amritsar, Thu, 21 Oct 2010 ANI

Amritsar, Oct. 21 (ANI): A former Member of Pakistan's Parliament, Rai AzizUllah Khan, has urged both India and Pakistan to bring about basic reforms in visa regulations so that people in both countries can come closer to each other.

He said it was necessary for both governments to promote people-to-people contact and develop bonhomie between communities.

Addressing reporters here before departing for Lahore after undertaking a visit to his ancestral town of Raikot, Khan informed that in 1705, the 10th spiritual master of the Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh had gifted "Ganga Sagar" a relic to his ancestors for the hospitality extended by the then Muslim rulers to him.

"Confidence building can be achieved only if the general public could meet and share each other feelings," he stated.

Khan said he firmly believed that people of both countries desired an improvement in bilateral ties.

Khan expressed gratitude to the people of Punjab for the love and warmth shown to him during his visit to Raikot. By Ravinder Singh Robin (ANI)
