Jayalalithaa to hold rally in Madurai today

Madurai, Mon, 18 Oct 2010 ANI

Madurai, Oct 18 (ANI): Despite getting over a dozen threat letters, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) Supremo J Jayalalithaa will address a rally here today.

The rally has been organised to protest against the failure of the ruling party in upholding the State's rights on Mullaiperiyar dam issue.

She has been getting regular threats not to visit Madurai, however, she refused to be cowed down.

AIADMK has been alleging that DMK is plotting an attack on Jayalalitha at Madurai.

According to sources, the party activists of Coimbatore have formed a new force called "Black Cat Commandos"" to protect her during the rally.

The Black Cat Commandos are experts in karate, kung-fu, stick marshal arts, weightlifting and so on.

The group consists of 1000 people. The force will accompany Jayalalithaa from the airport to the venue and will give her full proof security.

Meanwhile, State administration has strengthened security around the temple town fearing political clashes.

On October 14, four more death threat letters were received by the offices of pro-AIADMK Jaya TV, warning Jayalalithaa against her proposed visit to Madurai.

Jaya TV had also received a threatening phone call, reportedly from a supporter of the banned LTTE outfit, warning Jayalalithaa that she would be killed if she visited Madurai.

The AIADMK chief had received fourteen threatening letters and one phone call since the receipt of the first letter by Jaya TV on August 28.

The government had already handed over the investigation of the threat letters to the CBI.(ANI)
