BSF ready to stop cross border infiltration during winter in J-K

Kathua , Sat, 16 Oct 2010 ANI

Kathua (J-K), Oct 16 (ANI): Siddharth Chattopadhyay, Inspector General (IG) of the Border Security Force (BSF), has said that strategies are in place to stop cross-border infiltration of militants during the winter in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district.

Talking to reporters here on Friday, Chattopadhyay said: "The upcoming winter season has its own challenges. The shifting of civil secretariat and other offices, popularly known as 'darbar move', would lead to a change of the focus from the valley to the area of Jammu."

"Along with it, we would have very heavy fog in winter. The fog again would be a challenge for us and we cannot forget that there are disruptive elements across the border, which may not always within the control of the rangers. So we have to be alert," he added.

As a part of the precautionary measures, he also accounted some of the steps that would be adopted in the coming months.

"We have identified sensitive points. We have strengthened our troops over there. We have put more element of surveillance equipment; night vision devices and we have got a second line of defence behind them in case someone gets through. So we have identified those places and we have increased our presence," he said.

Chattopadhyay also said that sensitive areas have been demarcated and troops' presence has also been strengthened in those locations. (ANI)
