Kashmir violence: No firing incident at Singhpora

Srinagar, Aug 14 (ANI): The news regarding the firing incident at Singhpora in Pattan in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla District as reported by a news channel is not correct, according to police sources.

 

However, one person namely Firdous Ahmad Khan aged 20 year was injured when he fell down when miscreants pelted stones on a force convoy passing by at Singhpora, Pattan.

 

As per the local police authorities there was no firing at all at this place.

 

The injured person has received a scratch on the head when he fell down on some stone.

 

Meanwhile, a five-year-old girl who was ill has become latest victim of stone pelting.

 

Rohana, daughter of Mohammad Maqbool Mir, resident of Nusoo Qazigund , Kulgam got injured in her eye when some miscreants pelted stones on the Sumo car in which they were traveling towards Srinagar for a check up .

 

Meanwhile, hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani has called for a strike and peaceful demonstrations today.

 

The moderate faction of Hurriyat headed by Mirwaiz Umer Farooq has also given a call for strike to protest against the killing of people during protests.

 

The State Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will chair the high-level meeting later today to take stock of the situation.

 

On Friday, Abdullah cancelled the unified command meeting to consider the protests against the civilian deaths in the valley.

 

A curfew was initially imposed on June 30 in parts of northern and southern Kashmir to stop demonstrations over a couple of protesters who died in police firing.

 

It was lifted some days later, but was again imposed as fresh violence erupted.

 

The valley is witnessing a surge of violence that has led the authorities to impose frequent curfew restrictions in several parts of Kashmir.

 

With this death, the death toll in violence touched 55 since June. (ANI)
