Rescue and relief operation continues in full swing in Leh

New Delhi, Aug.8 (ANI): The Government on Sunday stated that the rescue and relief operation was being carried out in full swing in the devastated Leh.

 

According to Ministry of Home Affairs, the rescue and relief operation is being carried out with the help of the State Government, Army, Air Force, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), police and Central Para Military Forces.

 

"Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) is helping plug the breaches to make National Highway 1A between Srinagar-Kargil and Kargil-Leh functional," an official release stated on Sunday evening.

 

"Three IL-76 and four AN-32 aircraft carrying relief materials reached Leh this morning. 45 NDRF personnel along with 27 medical staff and rescue and relief materials including tents, tarpaulin, inflatable boats and medicine, etc. reached the affected areas yesterday," the release added.

 

Ministry of Home Affairs provided five satellite phones to the State Government yesterday (on Saturday).

 

During the intervening night of August 5, and 6, cloudburst and subsequent flash floods hit Leh, causing extensive loss of life and damage to property. (ANI)
