Anantnag erupts, curfew reimposed

Srinagar , Sun, 04 Jul 2010 ANI

Srinagar, July 4 (ANI): The curfew has been reimposed in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag town after a group of youths took to streets and clashed with police.

According to sources, authorities lifted the curfew in Anantnag at 8 a.m. for two hours but a group of youths came out on the roads and staged a march.

Paramilitary forces tried to disperse them, but as the protestors threw stones at them, the curfew was reimposed.

However, the situation was peaceful in the other parts of the valley including Baramulla, Sopore, Kulgam, Koimoh and old city area of Srinagar.

Government-run ration depots opened this morning. Shops and business establishments in uptown Srinagar also opened.

The situation in the valley has been tense over the past week due to repeated clashes between protestors and the security forces.

The latest round of demonstrations by some locals in Kashmir was sparked off by the death of at least 11 people over the past two weeks. (ANI)
