Rajkot's senior citizens get computer-savvy

Rajkot, Wed, 30 Jun 2010 ANI

Rajkot, June 30 (ANI): An institute in Gujarat's Rajkot city has offered Internet teaching courses to senior citizens.

Conducted by the Inside Tomorrow Computer Academy (ICTA), which is run by an NGO called Hoonf, the institute will also teach senior citizens the use of the Internet so that they can connect globally with people.

The course is open for people who are 50 and above.

"We have specially started with the batch of senior citizens, people who are 50 years and above are there in the batch, and we have made a different module for them. This will help them be in touch with their close friends and relatives who live abroad," said Chirag Kothari, the Centre Head of the computer institute.

Around 414 members are working with Hoonf. Over a dozen persons have joined the vocational program.

"We can connect ourselves to the outside world, but it is only possible if such an institute helps us like this. Then only we can move forward and there are many organisations which are professional, but this institute is social, and this is good especially for senior citizens," C. N. Anjaria, a senior citizen.

The duration of the course is for five and a half months and is expected to find many takers. (ANI)
