Dola eyes Olympics after setting aside Korean phobia

Nov 28:   The hottest golden girl of the Archery Dola Banerjee is now sets her eye for cornering Olympic glory after wining the gold medal at the recently concluded World championship in Dubai.

Much to her delight the latest archery diva, whose bow and arrow sings to her tunes, set aside the Korean phobia by overcoming second-seeded South Korean Choy Eon Young 110-109 in the final to clinch the gold in the 12-arrow contest.

"I cannot believe that I got the better of a Korean player to win gold at the world meet. They are much ahead of us in terms of training and technique. It feels that I am still in dreams," Dola said after her return.

The 27-year-old defeated world No.1 Natalya Erdyniyeva of Russia in the semi-final on the way to her career-best achievement thus far.

“I was lucky enough to survive the semis and it was her toughest battle in the competition,” said Dola.

It’s very relaxing when I was through to the finals as my sliver medal is atleast certain and I decided to give my best shot in the golden hunt against the much fancied Korean.

Having beaten Yu Min Jin in Ulsan (first leg of the World Cup) and now Choi in the final in Dubai, this was the second time an Indian had bettered the Koreans this year and shunted off the Koreans phobia to a large extent.

When asked, “Are we gaining an upper hand on the unconquerable Koreans?”

“Maybe you could say that,” Dola replied with a smile.

The victory earned her prize money of $10,000 and now the archer has set her sights for cornering Olympic glory.

"Olympics will absolutely be my next bulls-eye. This win has surely turned out to be a morale booster for me and will help me to go into the Olympics with an added bit of confidence, " Dola said.

The selection trial for the Olympics starts from December end and my immediate goal is to do well there.

Korean coach Lim Chae Woong is the person under whom Dola had been practising at the Tata Archery Academy (TAA) in Jamshedpur. The Arjuna awardee also pointed out his contribution.
