Coimbatore, Thu, 10 Jun 2010 ANI

Coimbatore, June 10 (ANI): Advocates in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore city staged a protest demonstration on Thursday to condemn Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa's visit to India.

The advocates raised anti-Rajapaksa slogans and burnt his effigy accusing him of genocide and human right violations of Tamils in Sri Lanka.

They also expressed disappointment at the silence of international bodies on this issue.

"There are so many cries, voices raised in the international arena against the inhuman activities, violations of the human rights," said Murugesan, a senior advocate.

"But the international community, those who are giving voices of human rights are now keeping their mum against these genocide, and human rights violations of the Sri Lankan Government," he added.

The advocates also shouted slogans against the Government of India and Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

Rajapaksa is on his first state visit to India after being re-elected as the President of Sri Lanka. (ANI)
