After 50 years of marriage, couples only speak for 3mins at dinner!

London, Apr 10 (ANI): After 50 years of marriage, most couples chat for three minutes over dinner, exchanging just 150 words, a new British study has found.

Before marriage, all loved-up pairs excitedly talk about careers, friends, music, babies - for an average of 50 minutes in every 60.

But once the knot is tied, Brit couples go down to 40 minutes an hour, which will almost halve to 21 minutes after 20 years and drop again to 16 minutes after 30 years, reports The Daily Express.

Relationship counsellor Manjit Ubhi says: "We can all recognise the scene at the restaurant, where married couples order their steak and chips and barely mutter anything to each other for the whole meal. It is simply not enough to go somewhere together.

"Couples need to make some effort and invest in talking, to keep their bonds strong."

And according to the survey of 500 British couples by casual dating website, the problem is exacerbated by having children.

Parents spoke to each other for only 10 minutes over an hour-long meal, while speaking for 35 minutes to their kids, the study found.

A spokesman said: "Sometimes they chat on their mobile phones for 30 minutes while the other person picked away at their salad." (ANI)
