Panigol (Orissa), Apr 9 (ANI): Scores of people gathered in Orissa's Panigol village for the funeral services of Jogeshwar Naik, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel killed in Chhattisgarh's Maoist attack.

Senior police personnel, officials, and local politicians paid floral tributes to martyr Nayak, who hailed from Orissa's Mayurbhanj district.

"Our grandfather Girish Chandra Nayak died in Jammu and Kashmir in 1984-85. Today, his grandson gave his life. This is a proud thing for us," said Purushottam Naik, a relative of Jogeshwar Naik.

Meanwhile, the friends and relatives of Naik, who had gathered for the funeral, said they were proud of the fact that he sacrificed his life for the country.

"He was from our village and my childhood friend. He went for this country and came back as a martyr. He has made our village proud," said Shiv Shankar Behera, Naik's friend.

Seventy-six Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed by the Maoists in an ambush in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada District on Tuesday, which is considered to be the most brutal attack ever by the rebels. (ANI)
