Government approach to tackle Maoists lenient, says Ananth Kumar

New Delhi, Fri, 09 Apr 2010 ANI

New Delhi, Apr 9 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) General Secretary Ananth Kumar, has slammed the Central Government for their lenient approach in tackling the Maoist menace in the country.

"The Central Government has been very lenient towards the Naxal (Maoist) movement in the past few years, and the lack of their co-ordination with the Maoist-infested states has resulted in an increase of their activities and such incidents," said Kumar, after the meeting of the party's office-bearers here on Thursday.

He added that his party would support the government if they strengthen the unified strategy against Maoists.

"If the government employs a strict measure to tackle the Maoist menace then BJP will support the government," Kumar said.

Kumar said the BJP strongly condemns the barbaric, inhuman and anti-national attack of the Maoists in central Chhattisgarh that killed 76 CRPF personnel.

The ambush by over 700 Maoist ultras in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday has highlighted their strong presence across large swathes of India, especially the remote rural areas. (ANI)
