Day curfew lifted in riot-hit old Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Apr 7 (ANI): The indefinite curfew clamped in old Hyderabad has been lifted from today.

 

With normalcy returning to the city after the posting of nearly 30 companies of the Central Paramilitary forces, besides State Police personnel, the authorities decided to lift curfew during the daytime.

 

According to sources," The situation was 'peaceful and fully under control. No untoward incidents were reported during the curfew relaxation.

 

As a precautionary measure, prohibitory orders were promulgated in the entire city.

 

The Andhra Pradesh Government had earlier ordered the deployment of additional security forces in old Hyderabad City where tension prevails, following overnight clashes between the two communities.

 

The Rapid Action Force (RAF) and the state police were earlier deployed in Moosa Bowli, Hussaini Alam, Purana Pul, Begum Bazar, and nearby areas to restore peace following incidents of stone-pelting and assault on religious places, houses, shops and vehicles.

 

The strife started in the Moosa Bowli area when the majority Hindu community reportedly removed green flags installed by and installed saffron ones during a recent festival.

 

The heated exchanges later snowballed into clashes between both groups. (ANI)
