Raj Thackeray gets bail in rioting cases, hours after surrender

Gangapur (Maharashtra), Feb 25(ANI): The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray was on Thursday released on bail, hours after surrendering before a court in Gangapur in Maharashtra's Aurangabad district in connection with four cases of rioting filed against him in 2008.

 

Thackeray, who was accompanied by his lawyer, was granted bail by the court of Judicial Magistrate on a bond of Rs 15,000.arlier in October 2008, Thackeray was arrested in Ratnagiri district over the anti-north Indians campaign launched by his party.

 

His arrest provoked riots in Mumbai and various parts of the State, following which several cases were registered against Thackeray and his supporters.

 

In the cases registered at Gangapur, Thackeray has been booked under sections 143 (offence against public tranquillity), 109 (abetment of offence), 336 (rash and negligent act endangering ife of others), 341 (wrongfully restraining persons), and 427 (mischief). (ANI)
