Pak will try to scuttle normalcy process in Kashmir: Gen. Jaswal

Udhampur, Fri, 15 Jan 2010 ANI

Udhampur Jan.15 (ANI): General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command (GOC-in-C), Lt Gen B S Jaswal, on Friday said Pakistan is trying to hype up the situation and is desperate to scuttle the process of normalcy that is going on in J and K and additional attacks, including that of Fidayeens can not be ruled out.

After attending an investiture ceremony 2010 for the presentation of the Sena Medal (Gallantry and Distinguished), Vishisht Seva Medal and Unit Citations that was held at the Dhruva Auditorium, Udhampur, today, Lt. Gen. Jaswal said India was aware of the activities across the border, and counter measures were being taken.

He further claimed that terror infrastructure across the border was intact and is a continuous endeavour on part of Pakistan.

"I can only say that as far as terrorist and camps and infrastructure is concerned that is intact and it's a continuous endeavor of the part of Pakistan to infiltrate. But what is more important or the operative line in this is that we are geared to meet any infiltration attempt, which takes place. We are fully poised for it," said Lt. Gen.Jaswal.

Lt Gen. Jaswal added that the threat of infiltration is always there and 2010 will be very crucial for security forces. I don't think Pakistan is very happy that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir is returning to normalcy. It will try and hype up, which you have seen in the month of December also. They will try and scuttle the process of normalcy that is going on in J and K. That is the reason I expect there will be some additional attacks, the kind that took place in Lal Chowk, but again I would like to tell you that we are fully geared to take any contingency."

When asked about the sudden spurt in terrorist attacks and the threat of fidayeens looming large, Lt. Gen. Jaswal said: "Maybe, there will be fidayeen attacks also, there is possibility. As I said , this will be the endeavor of Pakistan to push more and more infiltrators and will try to scuttle the normalcy, which is fast prevailing in J and K."

On the alleged Chinese incursion in Ladakh, Lt. gen.Jaswal clarified: "I would like to tell you, and as our chief has said, there is not an inch of tampering on the demarcated line. There is some overlap in some areas which we call the boundary question. They (Chinese) patrol on their boundary, which they call their claim line and we call it transgression. And we do patrolling on the boundary line in their area , which they call transgression." By Tahir Nadeem Khan (ANI)
