Creating a foray into the reign of ruling Congress and the opposition TDP in Andhra Pradesh with the exodus of cadres and leaders to the nascent Praja Rajyam, the celluloid hero Chiranjeevi – Chiru to adoring fans – within 48-hour of launching his party appears to have been caught into trouble over the name of his party.
As per the sources placed in the state election commission office, Telugu mega star Chiranjeevi could not use the name of Prajarajyam as the name of its political outfit ‘Praja Rajyam.’
The name ‘Prajarajyam,’ sources say, has already been applied by the fellow Andhrite CK Redddy from Cuddappah in February this year seeking registration of his party with this name. Since his application for registration of the party name ‘Praja Rajyam’ is under consideration, the same name can not be allowed to use. However, the trouble cropped up in the garb of name could end, only if, Reddy withdraws his application.
The application seeking registration of party with the name Praja Rajyam, which the mega star filed the same day after launching his party on Tuesday, was yet to be examined by the election commission; no formal comment has been issued from Chiranjeevi.
Meanwhile, the Praja Rajyam has kicked off a drive on membership enrolment with special focus on women and youth having tough determination to work day and night for the upliftment of the party.
A party leader said the ‘hunt for enthusiastic youth’ is according to Chiranjeevi’s call to youth at the Avilala public meeting to be the fulcrum of his party. Grand success of the launching party amid mammoth crowd gathered to boost up their ‘reel star’ to take a plunge into the ‘real world’ is itself an evidence that Chiranjeevi is the ‘near and dear’ to everyone.
However, the political opponent has a different story to tell. Chiefly, the ruling Congress and the Opposition Telugu Desam Party, eyeing to win the coming Assembly election next year and gaining prominence in the general election, afraid of exodus of their partymen and party leaders to the Praja Rajyam vehemently saying that mega star’s party is just an illusion. The party lacking substance, vigour, and a definite agenda has nothing new to offer to people.
Casting aside the fear arising out of score of party leaders quitting the TDP and Congress and joining the Praja Rajyam, both the party leaders said that they need not to be worry. With no “clear” agenda, the Praja Rajyam would not sustain before them and would fail from making any impact on their electoral vote bank.
However, political observers feel that it is the TDP which would be hit badly by the Praja Rajyam viewing the large number of senior party leaders quitting the party and joining the Praja Rajyam. Exodus from the Congress to Praja Rajyam is comparatively minimal.
The actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi launched his own political party ‘Praja Rajyam’ with a bang amid massive crowd gathered at the temple town of Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh on August 26.
The state is heading to elections in 2009 along with the general elections.
