Meerut Gurukul trains students in archery

Meerut, July 27 (ANI): A residential school known as 'Gurukul Prabhat Ashram' located in Tikri village of Uttar Pradesh's Meerut district has been training its students in archery skills.

 

This Gurukul academy has produced many acclaimed archers, including Satyadev Prasad, Mangal Singh Champia and Ved Kumar.

 

Boys clad in traditional Dhotis and Kurtas at the academy are trained with both the traditional Indian native wooden bows and international standard kits for national and international competitions.

 

According to a faculty member of the institution, archery is an important topic of the curriculum and hence the name Gurukul Dhanuvidya Sansthan to the parent organisation. Dhanuvidya means the art of archery.

 

"For the overall development of student, we teach spirituality and religious aspects with special focus on mental development. We also teach Yoga as only a healthy body develops a healthy mind. I think that for the development of student yoga is very essential. Apart from this archery is also an important element of our curriculum," said Acharya Treenath, a teacher at the Gurukul.

 

On their part, the students have responded on an encouraging note. They even expressed their wish to take part in the Olympic Games and win a medal for the country.

 

"Our motto is to preserve the Vedic cultural heritage here we also learn archery and all of us are determined to win a gold medal in Olympics," noted Vaidhyanath, a student.

 

The Gurukul has produced around a dozen of internationally renowned marksmen including Satyadev Prasad who was ranked among the best archers of the nation. (ANI)
