Designer bars in Punjab

Chandigarh, July 23 (ANI): Punjab is famous for its 'Patiala Peg' - a double or large peg of whiskey. Though that royal magnificence no longer exists, but Punjabis still enjoy their drinks in the evening at different watering holes or even at their private bars.

 

Sarabjit Singh, a retired police officer, always wanted to have his own personal bar with a collection of imported wines and whiskies. Today he has his own bar that also has a collection of accessories like a strainer, double jigger and a speed pourer.

 

He has imported most of the accessories from abroad.

 

"Punjabis have been having some sort of small bars in their houses earlier may be cabinets design like bars but now the city got better, said Singh.

 

With the increasing popularity of personal bars, the demand for bar accessories is greater than ever before in Punjab. Seeing the trend, Punjab excise department has permitted the setting up of upscale modern liquor shops.

 

They can also sell bar accessories besides Indian Made Foreign Liquor.

 

Mandeep Singh Bali, a designer bar enthusiast said, "Earlier people in Punjab used to buy bar accessories during their visit abroad. Now, everything is available here. Now, people don't have to pay import duty on these bar accessories."

 

"The Italian and French brands are in big demand in the market. To have a private bar is now an emerging trend. Accessories ranging from 15 to 400 USD are available with us and we will be expanding the product range in future," said, Rajeshwar Gupta a Shop Owner

 

Almost all major cities in Punjab have nightlife. And, with the opening up of pubs and lounges the demand for bar accessories has also risen. By Sunil Sharma (ANI)
