Exotic flower show in Bangalore

Bangalore, Aug 12 (ANI): A week-long exotic flower show commenced here as part of the Independence Day celebrations.

 

Beginning on Sunday, this is the fourth annual flower show in a row and promises to be a visual delight for the residents.

 

Exhibiting over 300 varieties of flowers, the show has been organised jointly by the National Horticulture Mission and the Mysore Horticulture Society.The major attraction is the replica of Hampi's (medieval Indian heritage city) stone chariot made out of roses. The flower chariot has been decorated with vegetables. Over 40 labourers have toiled hard to replicate the splendid structure.

 

"This time they have done it really good especially the layout. Last time, they had put up a lighthouse, which was also beautiful," said Vinu Philip, a visitor.

 

The main exhibition is in the glass house of 'Lal Bagh' where an array of over 200 thousand of roses and other species of flowers like zinnia, dahlia, fuchsia, and geranium are on display.

 

Tourists are thronging to catch a glimpse of the awe inspiring musical instruments made out of flowers.

 

Apart from this, over four hundred varieties of cacti and bonsai, and medicinal plants like asparagus, thyme and camphor basil are on display along with various varieties of fruits and vegetables.

 

"There are varieties of flowers, fruits and vegetables. Vegetable carving it could have been an educational tour for the kids too," said Swaroopa Davankar, another visitor.

 

Apart from flowers, there is a display of organically grown vegetables and fruits.

 

"Flowers are very pretty but what attracted kids most is the information that how pumpkins, bitter gourd and potatoes are grown," said Archana Joshi, a visitor.
