Yachting competition in Nainital

Nainital, June 8 (ANI): Indian army organised a yachting competition to popularise the sport and give a fillip to tourism in Nainital on Sunday.

 

The competition was held under the aegis of the central army command.Lieutenant General J.K. Mohnati, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Army Command said that the aim of organising yaching competition was to popularise the sport among the tourists.

 

"The main reason behind it is to promote yachting among the tourists as the tourist season is on and many tourists are here. Yachting is a thing of interest for the tourists and it causes no pollution as well. People remain in good health and we hope that Nanital Lake should remain in very good condition," said General Mohnati.

 

Somya, a tourist said that the scenic spot was perfect for yachting.

 

"We are feeling very good and we are standing on the Boat House club and you can see below that yacht race is going on. It is so enjoyable. Mountains are so good and sunlight is pleasant we are feeling very pleasant here," she added. The army also aimed to create awareness about containing the pollution levels in the famous Naini Lake.

 

Felling of trees and rapid urbanization in Nanital has led to large amounts of silt flowing into lakes in the area. (ANI)
