Human skulls found in Aligarh

Aligarh (UP), Fri, 29 May 2009 ANI

Aligarh (UP), May 29 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Police found more human skeletons here on Thursday from the same spot where five days earlier, hundreds of human skulls, bones and two skeletons were spotted in a dried up pond adjacent to a mortuary.

The police officials claimed that in this latest digging operation, 25 to 30 skeletons were recovered while the number of bones outnumbered the skeletons.

The skulls and bones surfaced consequent to the pond drying up due to excessive heat over the past fortnight.

Consequent to the rising number of skulls and bones being recovered from the pond, a panic situation has gripped the citizens of Aligarh.

Residents said that the administration and others manning the mortuary must have misused the money meant for cremating by dumping the remains of the dead persons here.

The police officials ruled out any foul play at this stage and said that inquiry is going on in this case.

"There has been negligence. The last rites, which should have been performed according to the religious procedure, have not been done. It is because of this that these skeletons and bones have been found. Further investigation is also going on in this case," said Man Singh Chauhan, Superintendent of Police, Aligarh.

The administration has undertaken the digging of the pond with police protection since backlash by the public is apprehended.

The exact number of bones and skeletons recovered is yet to be ascertained.

Some are of the view that in addition to the hundreds of skeletons and bones found since digging began on May 23 the total may touch the four figures in the days to come. (ANI)
