The Gandhis ranging from the harbinger of Indian independence Mahatma Gandhi to the present president of Indian National Congress Ms Sonia Gandhi all are the seeds of the same tree with the passion to serve the Indian society.

Though misfortune enveloped this hero and was assassinated still is contemplated as the epitome of youth symbolising unending energy, courage and force. Thus Rajib Gandhi was the inspiration for youth and his birthday is celebrated as the National Youth Day in India.

During the 70s and 80s the national government of India felt the need of establishing a special institute to cater to the various necessities of the Indian youth and to sensitize their power and knowledge in order to tackle and face the aspects of the 21st century which needs a greater youth force to fill its desires and the various longings of the people. Thus germinated Nehru Yuba Kendra Sangatan in 1972. But failed to mobilize the vast youth power of India.

This paved the way for the upcoming of a national youth institute in 1993 in Indian state of Tamilnadu called Rajib Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development. RGNIYD is an autonomous organization under the direct supervision of the ministry of Youth affairs and sports, government of India and completely funded by it. It enables the youth of the nation to realize the natural potential in a complete natural and palatable environment completely away from the artificiality of modern materialistic life.

In addition RGNIYD also undertakes special courses on the issues related to Youth development and research on the field. It arranges various kinds of seminars and work shops on youth issues and provides training to the youth to in order to inject in them present role of the youth in developing a nation and reducing rural urban difference and competing with the world. Recently it launches 2 years Master degree programme in Gender studies, Youth environment, Local Governance, Life skill education and career counseling etc to lead the youth power of the country towards a collective power thus emerge a sense of responsibility between them.

RGNIYD IS administrated by its Director assisted by executive council comprising 15 members. Thus the national institute has accomplished many milestones in its journey in strengthening the youth energy in the country to keep it ready to tackle any impediment may came on the way. It not only keeps youth strong but also takes every measure to keep them safe and protected from any harmful impact on them.
