The 26th Suraj Kund Crafts Fair has taken off on February 1, 2012 and will continue till February 15th.
It's a fair of colors, fair of folk dances, fair of finest handicrafts and a fair where mixture of traditions and culture of different states and countries can be seen.
It was started in the year 1987 and since then, this fair has gained a reputation of one of the best fair in India, to showcase Handicrafts and Handlooms work. In 2011, Suraj Kund Crafts Fair recorded a footfall of 7.5 lakh and is hoping to touch 10 lakh during the two week long fair.
This year Suraj Kund Crafts Fair Association has decided to make Thailand (the Chief Guest of Republic Day Celebration) to be the partner of the Fair. Besides Thailand, crafts men from SAARC countries, Uzbekistan, Kyrgystan and Congo are also participating in this Fair to display the tradition, color and rituals of their respective countries.
400 and more crafts men from all over India and abroad will make a stay in Suraj Kund to showcase their artwork, craftsmanship, handlooms and handicrafts. Visitor can enjoy and also buy their products if they wish.
Though there is lot to do and see in the Fair, people can also look forward to these Cultural programs:
Cultural programs will start from 6pm and will go on till 10pm. However, the Fair entry is from 9:30am in the morning till 7pm in the evening.
The highlight of this year Mela is an "Apna Ghar", which will depict Haryana's culture, themes and atmosphere.
It's not just the Indian culture that people can see but also can know about the culture, traditions and rituals followed by the other participating countries. Craft lovers from far off places turn up to this city to see the talent and finest work of crafts men.
