Colorful Crafts Mela at Surajkund, Faridabad

A colorful Crafts Mela 2012 at Surajkund, Faridabad has begun on February 1, 2012 and will continue till February 15, 2012. It is held every year in Surajkund town since 1987. It is located just 8 kms away from New Delhi, in the outskirts of Faridabad, Haryana.

Surajkund Crafts Fair was first started in 1987. It is a fair where people of every corner of the country and abroad come to portray their finest handicrafts, handlooms, art works and tradition of their respective state or country.

This year it is a platform for visitors to see the talent and work of 400 and more renowned craftsman from all over India and also from many foreign countries. It is now acknowledged world over, and recorded a footfall of 7.5 lakh last year. Surajkund Crafts Fair Association is expecting it to reach above 10 lakh this time around.

Best of the crafts person have been sent by SAARC countries, Kyrgystan, Uzbekistan, Congo and the Fair partner Thailand (the Chief Guest of Republic Day Celebration as well) to showcase the culture, dance, art and rituals of their respective countries.

Like every year this year also the fair has a state theme and it's Assam this time. People will get a chance to show the rich culture, architecture, artwork and dance form of this state.

Highlight of this year fair is an Apna Ghar, which will depict the traditions and rituals of Haryana.

If you are planning to a visit to Surajkund Crafts Fair there is lot you can look forward too. Other than finest artwork, handicrafts and handlooms work and dances there are several cultural program arranged:

  • On 1st February 2012, there will be a cultural performance by the theme state Assam that will depict the tradition of its state.
  • 2nd February 2012 will see a Medley performance by the foreign cultural troupes of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgystan & Congo
  • On 3rd February 2012 there will be unique fashion Show on Khadi. Designers will present a collection made by Khadi.
  • 5th February 2012 is for the fusion of traditional and western/contemporary dance and music, which will be presented by veteran Dinesh Yadav.
  • Hasya Kavi Samelan is organized on 7th February 2012, which will be presented by renowned Dinesh Raghuvanshi.
  • There will be blend of fusion Kathak on 8th February 2012.
  • Niami Bandhu will present Qawali on 10th February 2012.
  • The night of 12th February 2012 will see a band performance, Band and Rock by Padamjeet Sherawat.
  • Azaadi The Band will resent a show on 14th February 2012.
  • 15th February 2012 being the last day of 26th SurajkundCraft Fair will have a closing ceremony.

The fair entry is from 9:30am in the morning till 7pm in the evening. One can roam and enjoy the fair and at the same time can buy the things they like.

Cultural programs will start from 6pm and will go on till 10pm.

There is lot many things for a person delight craftwork, dances, household items, toys and many other things made of wood, brilliant embroidery, terracotta work, bangles, clothes, what not is their to look to.
