February 1 will see the start of 26th Suraj Kund Crafts Mela, which has flourished its name and fame in the past two decades. Suraj Kund, a small town at the border of Haryana state, just 8 kms away from South Delhi, has hosted this Mela since 1987, when it was first started. Since then crafts men, painters, artists from all over the world have started to take this as a platform to showcase their talent. Even the admirers of arts and crafts never miss the chance to come and be a part of this colorful Mela.

It is evident that this Mela has been acknowledged world over from the fact that Suraj Kund Crafts Mela Association recorded a footfall of nearly 7.5-lakh tourists last year. They are expecting a growth in this number during a two week long Mela this year.

Suraj Kund Crafts Mela will see the light on Feb 1 and will end on Feb 15. During these 15 days nearly 400 crafts persons from all over India and abroad will come to its soil to present their best.

Crafts person from SAARC nation, Uzbekistan, Kyrgystan, Congo and Thailand are taking part to show the colors and traditions of their respective countries.

Visitors coming to this Mela will witness some of the finest Handicrafts and Handlooms work done and presented by renowned artists.

Suraj Kund Crafts Mela 2012:

This year’s partner of Suraj Kund Crafts Mela is Thailand, the same nation invited as the Chief guest of Republic Day Celebration in India.

This years Mela will witness a whole number of new cultural programs carried out by professionals and school children. Besides the Mela there will be various cultural programs, which will be carried out daily from 6pm onwards.

Every year Mela is set on an Indian state theme showcasing all the traditions and rituals of that particular state, this year the pride is of Assam. The state gets a chance to flaunt its architecture, decorations, colors, art and traditions in the Mela.

Besides, the highlight of this year Mela is an “Apna Ghar”, which will depict Haryana’s culture, themes and atmosphere.
