Muslim funded UK college in dock for removing 'white Christian' principal, wife

London, Dec 30(ANI): A British college, which claims to promote multiculturalism, has been dragged into a racial row over allegations that its principal and his wife have been sacked for being white Christians.

Professor Malory Nye, 47, claimed he was dismissed from his job at the Al-Maktoum College of Higher Education in Dundee, Scotland, which is funded by the Dubai Royal family, because its management viewed his race and religion as a threat to its Muslims.

His wife Isabel Campbell-Nye, 42, alleged that she was forced to step down as head of the college's English language centre because she had recruited several non-Arab or non- Muslim students.

Both have moved the employment tribunal over the issue of racial and religious discrimination, and unfair dismissal.

Campbell-Nye also alleged being a victim of sex discrimination as she was allegedly suspended and later dismissed because she is Professor Nye's wife.

The couple were at loggerheads with the college leaders over fears of promoting cosmopolitan culture in the campus.

They allege that Operations Director Abubaker Abubaker and Board of Directors Chairperson Mirza al-Sayegh decided to remove them because they were British Christians.

"It is clear to me that there is collusion between these two individuals that I should be removed from my position on the basis that I am not an Arab and not a Muslim and that the person who has the role of principal should be Arab and/or Muslim," The Telegraph quoted Professor Nye, as saying.

The couple have also lodged grievances against the Labour peer Lord Elder, Chancellor of the college and a close friend of former Prime Minister Gordon Brown, for his handling of what they describe as a "sham" disciplinary process.

A college spokesperson refused to discuss the matter in detail due to the ongoing legal probe. (ANI)
