Obama's rating plunges, yet ahead of GOP rivals: Poll

Washington , Wed, 20 Apr 2011 ANI

Washington, Apr 20 (ANI): US President Barack Obama's job performance rating has fallen, but he still leads over other Republican rivals, according to Washington Post/ABC News poll.

The survey of 1,001 adults showed the president's approval rating dropping to 47 percent, down four percentage points since a month ago and just one point higher than the lowest ratings of his presidency.

Despite the low ratings, Obama however, edges out seven potential GOP presidential candidates by margins ranging from between four and 17 percentage points, The Politico reports.

Obama does best in the survey when matched against former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, with 55 percent backing him and 38 percent supporting her.

Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney does best against Obama, getting 45 percent of the vote to Obama's 49 percent.

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee is second, getting 44 percent of the vote to Obama's 50 percent.

Obama did well against former House Speaker Newt Gingrich as he wins the support of 54 percent of those surveyed to Gingrich's 39 percent.

He also leads by 15 points, which is 53 percent to former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty's 38 percent.

American businessman Donald Trump and Minnesota Republican Michele Bachmann both trail Obama by 12 percentage points in the survey. (ANI)
