Chandigarh, Sep 15(ANI): Chandigarh, is emerging as one of India's most developed metropolis.

Designed by French architect, Le Corbusier in 1950s, the city provides comfort and stability to its, while the rapid development in IT, tourism and service sector reveals another aspect of the city.

Chandigarh is the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana. The city itself is a Union Territory and administered directly by the Union Government.

Being the headquarters of both Punjab and Haryana governments, Chandigarh has become a hub of political, social and economic activities.

"Chandigarh not only gives you physical space which is very clearly visible to anybody who comes here, but it is also great thing because it gives you social space, it gives you mental space. So, you have all kinds of people settling in here and then feeling as if they belong to it. That's something you say for very few cities," said Sherry Sabarwal, Chairperson of the Department of Sociology of Punjab University.

The city is also emerging as global education and knowledge hub. And, the available talent pool and infrastructure is also drawing the IT industry to the city, which contributes in a major way to Chandigarh's economy.

In recent survey conducted by Cyber Media, the city ranks 9th in the top 50 cities identified globally as 'emerging outsourcing and IT services destinations'.

"I think affluent people of Punjab get settled in Chandigarh.

Affluent people of Himachal and Haryana also get settled here. So, naturally Chandigarh is attracting the affluent people those who can spend money. For eg typical Punjabi student - who belongs to certain part - he would like to study in Chandigarh because he get attracted by the lifestyle over here, facilities, entertainment and other things. So, once he comes here, he thinks about settling over here," said A K Vashisht, an economic analyst.

The rising incomes has also brought about a higher standard of living, and the citizens now don't hesitate in pending it big and believe in living life to its fullest. (ANI)
