Widows in Vrindavan shun white, drench themselves in colours of Holi
Vrindavan, Mar 4 (ANI): Shunned by their families and abhorred by society, thousands of widows devoting their lives to the worship of Lord Krishna broke taboos and participated in Holi celebrations at a hermitage in Vrindavan. The ancient traditions of India bar widows from participating in celebrations including those of the festival of colours- Holi, as her presence is considered a bad omen. However, a hermitage in Vrindavan run by a non-profit, Sulabh International, over the years has been working towards the emancipation of widows from the redundant mindset of the society by organising Holi celebrations and to encourage them live life to the fullest.
