Vice President polls today

Chennai, Aug 07 (ANI): India is due to hold its Vice Presidential election today in the Parliament House between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Incumbent Vice President Mohammed Hamid Ansari is the UPA candidate and NDA leader Jaswant Singh, is his opponent. Ansari is reportedly confident of winning at least 500 votes. A total of 788 Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs are eligible to vote in the poll to elect the Vice President. The AIADMK, which has 14 MPs in Parliament, announced its support to Singh s candidature. Speaking to media persons Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa said that it was due to her 28 year long political comrade with Singh that she chose to support his name.
