Triple talaq' is unconstitutional, observes Allahabad High Court

Allahabad, Dec 08 (ANI): In an observation, the Allahabad High Court on Thursday said the practice of 'triple talaq' by Muslims is unconstitutional and violates the rights of Muslim women. The high court stated, "No personal law board is above the Constitution". Reacting to this, a Muslim cleric Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahali said that while he respected the high court's observation, Muslims had a constitutional right to appeal against it if they were not satisfied. Triple talaq refers to a Muslim man's debatable Islamic right to divorce his wife by mere utterance of the unequivocal word 'talaq', thrice in one go. Many Muslim women from across the nation have moved various courts challenging the validity of 'triple talaq'.
