Traffic police in Hyderabad to use body worn cameras for smart policing

Hyderabad, July 06 (ANI): Traffic police in Hyderabad city of Telangana state procure ‘body worn cameras’ under a ‘smart policing’ initiative to reduce crimes and to improve police-public interface. Under the initiative brought about by the state government, traffic police officers would use sophisticated GPRS-enabled body-worn cameras which would record exchanges with the public. The move, an effort to improve transparency in policing and to elicit ‘desirable behaviour’ among the public, comes in the backdrop of increasing allegations of bribery against police in the city. People were, however, cautious about the effect the initiative could have on police behaviour and public-police relationship.
