Teenage girl makes Kashmir proud, innovates Namda Rolling Machine

Srinagar, Jan 21 (ANI): A class-12 student of Kashmir Valley from Presentation Convent School has come with an innovation, which is known as 'Namda Rolling Machine'. The innovation by this Bota Kadal Lal Bazar-based girl Zufa Iqbal is seen as a big relief to the people associated with Namda work. Rolling of Kashmiri Namda (a mattress like carpet) is a tiresome job that takes hours and a lot of efforts from artisans. To overcome this hectic process, the innovator has successfully designed a prototype model for rolling and manufacturing a Namda. Zufa shared that it takes just 30 minutes to make one piece of Namda with the machine and so it reduces the workload, which took hours. Zufa has dedicated this nobel innovation to her parents whom she calls morale booster. In order to develop a prototype of her innovation, Zufa Iqbal has registered her innovation with GIAN Cell - University of Kashmir. GIAN Cell has also submitted a proposal to National Innovation Foundation-India for support. Recently President Pranab Mukherjee presented Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam IGNITE Awards to the winning children of IGNITE competition and Zufa Iqbal was among the awardees.
