Small canals carved on mountains to fight drought

Nagpur, June 30 (ANI): With an aim to increase the groundwater level and decrease the affects of global warming, the Maharashtra forest department has come up with a unique programme of water conservation. Under the 'Jal Yukta Shivar' initiative, small canals were dug on the mountains to stop the rain water from going into the sewers. Giving details, Katol MLA Ashish Deshmukh said the scheme will increase the water level and will make the mountain greener by planting trees. Locals sight global warming is the main reason behind the drought in Maharashtra. The drought situation in Maharashtra is said to be the worst in the last four decades.
