Six Maoist rebels killed in encounter with security forces in Bastar

Bastar, Oct 07 (ANI): Police killed six Maoist rebels and recovered the body of one of them in Chhattisgarh on Wednesday. A team of police went into the forest region of Chandameta and Kandanar where the rebels had abducted local villagers. The police team came under heavy fire from the rebels once they reached the area. In the ensuing battle, six Maoist rebels were killed and police recovered the body of one woman rebel. The police team also recovered arms and explosives from them. There were about 60 Maoists who took away the bodies of five of their colleagues with them. The deceased woman has been identified as Peeso. The Maoists, also known as 'Naxals' in India, seek the violent overthrow of the Indian state and have fought authorities for decades, particularly in rural areas of central and eastern India where they enjoy some support.
