Shutdown in Jammu to protest 'beef party'

Jammu, Oct 10 (ANI): The Jammu region of J-K observed a shutdown on Saturday (October 10) in protest of a 'beef party' hosted by a local MLA. The shutdown call was given by regional Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP), demanding the arrest of independent MLA Engineer Rashid. Shops, public transport, educational institutions and businesses remained closed in Udhampur, Reasi and Chenani towns of the Jammu region in view of the shutdown. JKNPP protesters hit the streets shouting slogans against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is a part of coalition government in the state, along with regional People's Democratic Party (PDP). Rashid was thrashed by BJP members in the Assembly on Thursday (October 08) for allegedly hosting the 'beef party'. Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Nirmal Singh later reluctantly apologized on behalf of his party legislators on the direction of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
