Security beefed up in Assam ahead of PM's visit for DGPs conference

Guwahati, Nov 28 (ANI): Security stepped up ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting with the police chiefs in Assam. Modi and Home Affairs Minister Rajnath Singh will address the two-day meet, which begins on Saturday, and being held in Assam for the first time. Directors general of police (DGPs) and inspectors general of police (IGPs) from the states and union territories, chief ministers of the northeastern states, officials from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and paramilitary forces will take part in it. Director General of Police Khagen Sarma said all precautionary measures are being taken to prevent any untoward incident. India's northeast consists of eight states which are beset with militancy and insurgency. Guwahati has been put on high alert from today following inputs about the ULFA and some other underground groups planning to carry out major acts of sabotage in the city.
