Rajasthan govt to withdraw circular to settle Meena-Mina dispute

Jaipur, Oct 13 (ANI): Rajasthan's Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Arun Chaturvedi recently said the state government will withdraw the orders of 2014, related to Meena-Mina Scheduled Tribe (ST) certificates. He further added that the government has presented an affidavit to Rajasthan High Court's principal bench at Jodhpur that 'Meena' and 'Mina' were surnames of the same community, which was entitled to reservation benefits. The state government last year had issued a circular on September 30, followed by an order on December 23 that banned changing of spelling from 'Meena' to 'Mina', that led to denial of Scheduled Tribe (ST) certificates to people with Meena surname. Central Government's notification has 'Mina' community (not Meena) as ST category empowering them with reservations in government jobs, educational institutes and elections.
