Pakistani court asks India-Pakistan to resolve stranded girl custody

Karachi, Sep 04 (ANI): A Pakistani court rejected a petition by Indian lawyer seeking custody of a deaf and mute Indian girl Geeta living at Edhi Foundation, Pakistan's largest charity and said that matter be resolved at diplomatic level between India and Pakistan. Geeta, a young Hindu woman now in her early 20s, was around 11 years old when she crossed from India to Pakistan, a mistake that would spark an odyssey to find her family and captivate the public after a hit film with a similar plot was released last month. Her story comes amid frosty relations between the two South Asian powers following a series of militant attacks. The lawyer for Edhi Foundation, Naeem Qureshi hailed the court verdict. Though his application was rejected but Indian lawyer and social worker, Momineen Malik called it a good decision by the honourable court. Geeta was brought to a home for lost and abandoned children by Pakistani soldiers, say officials at the charitable Edhi Foundation.
