Naxalism weakens as youths abandon their programs in Odisha
Malkangiri (Odisha), Apr 28 (ANI): The left radical Maoists, who have been acting as messiahs of the tribal rights, have received a major setback as a number of youth who were influenced by their rebellion ideology has abandoned them. Residents of Odisha’s Malkangiri region recalled the atrocities perpetrated by rebel Maoists and said that they never benefitted from the violent practices of Naxals, and instead incurred massive loss, owing to the relentless fights. : Killings, abductions, barging into people’s homes, harassing and threatening them with deadly consequences has become a regular exercise for Naxals in Odisha. Now, the villagers are coming out and speaking against Naxal atrocities. Today, due to the sustained and multi-pronged strategic efforts of the government, the Maoist influence is rapidly shrinking. They are also facing a strong resistance from locals as well. Many misled tribal youth have also realised the futility of violence and have joined the mainstream.
