Mixed reactions flow over OROP issue as its promise still remains unfulfilled

New Delhi/ Mumbai, May 30 (ANI): Mixed reactions flowed on Saturday over the issue of One Rank One Pension which still stands as an unfulfilled promise of the Central government. In an interview with an Indian daily Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, said that the government was committed to OROP for ex-servicemen. OROP has been a long standing demand of ex-servicemen's associations and relates to payment of uniform pension to defence forces personnel retiring in the same rank with the same length of service, irrespective of their date of retirement. The demand for OROP scheme made by soldiers had been acceded to by the previous Congress-led UPA government. It had even allocated rupees 83 billion budget for the scheme. JD (U) leaders Ali Anwar and KC Tyagi slammed the BJP government for keeping the people in a condition of vagueness. Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that PM has showed commitment towards the issue and BJP leader Sambit Patra in turn blamed Congress. Meanwhile, Defence Expert Wing Commander (Retired) Praful Bakshi, said that the government will hurt the armed personnel a lot if the promise is not kept. Union Defence Minister, Manohar Parrikar, had earlier said that no time can be fixed about fulfilling the promise.
