Locals in Agra plead for restoration of heritage sites

Agra, July 04 (ANI): The local residents of Agra city of Uttar Pradesh pleaded the authorities to restore some historic monuments. These heritage sites, which locals claim to have a rich legacy, are being ignored by conservation authorities. The Archeological Society of India seems to be unaware of an ancient cave in Fatehpur Sikri, 45 kilometres from Agra city, which has apparent ties with Hindu mythology ‘Ramayana’. The locals are worried as the cave lies in shambles today. According to local residents, the cave is dedicated to Hindu goddess, Sita, who is said to have lived there during the time of her exile. The site is revered by the name, 'Sita ki Rasoi' (Kitchen of Sita). There is also a historic banyan tree which is believed to be on the same place and in similar position from last 500 years. The conditions of all these historic places are deteriorating because of the apathy of the authorities. The local residents are worried about the future of these sites.
