Indian Navy gets new vice chief

New Delhi, Mar 31 (ANI): Vice Admiral P Murugesan was accorded guard of honour in New Delhi as he took charge as the Vice Chief of Indian naval staff on Tuesday. As per reports, the Indian navy has undergone a rejig as part of which Vice Chief S Lanba has been anointed as chief of the southern naval command which was earlier designated to SPS. Cheema. The latter will now serve in western naval command. Murugesan, while briefing mediapersons after the ceremony, said that navy ships were sent to conflict-torn Yemen to evacuate stranded Indians. India on Monday sent ships to Yemen to evacuate more than 4,000 nationals, mostly nurses, who were caught up in the fighting. The two passenger ships, MV Kavaratti and MV Coral, left from the southern Indian port city Kochi. As per reports, they are likely to dock at Al Hudaydah in Yemen from where they will transport the stranded Indians to Dijibouti. They will then be flown to India.
