India acts to reduce cost of urea supplies to farmers
New Delhi, April 1 (ANI): India's cabinet has approved a move to supply gas for urea production at a uniform price to fertilizer plants through a pooling mechanism, lowering costs and boosting production of India's most widely consumed fertilizer. The move is expected to save 15.5 billion rupees by reducing India's reliance on urea imports, the government said in a statement after Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a cabinet meeting. Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said the move will allow sale of gas at a composite price, arrived at by pooling gas from cheaper domestic and more expensive imported sources.
