Hundreds of trucks left stranded as heavy rains damage highway
Lower Powa(Assam), May 28 (ANI): Hundreds of goods-laded trucks have been stranded for over a week on the decrepit National Highway (NH) 44 in Lower Powa area of Assam as torrential rains lash the region. About a 15-kilometre-long stretch of the NH-44 between Assam and Tripura has been severely damaged in the downpours, disconnecting the hilly Tripura from the rest of the country. Bad roads and heavy rains combined have disrupted traffic, which mostly consists of trucks carrying perishable goods and petroleum products. Drivers have been left without food and water. Despite repeated requests to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the condition of NH-44 remains unchanged.
