Greenpeace India fights for survival after govt's clampdown on charities

New Delhi, May 06 (ANI): Greenpeace India has only enough funds to cover one more month's salary for its employees and is facing closure after the government cancelled registration of thousands of charities for failing to declare details of donations from abroad. Greenpeace India Campaigner, Priya Pillai whose overseas travel ban was overturned by the Delhi High Court in the month of March, said that the NGO has been left with funds for staff salaries and office maintenance costs that will last for just about a month. The Narendra Modi government on April 28 cancelled Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) certificates of nearly 9,000 charities for failing to declare details of donations from abroad.
