Govt's move to re-promulgate land ordinance draws flak from opposition

New Delhi/ Nagpur, March 28 (ANI): Opposition parties criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Central government on Saturday (March 28) for its move to re-promulgate the land ordinance, which lapses on April 05 because it could not be converted into a law by the parliament. The politicians accused the government of adopting an adamant stand for appeasing the corporate sector. JD (U) leader KC Tyagi, said the opposition would continue protest till their demands for fair compensation for farmers and transparency in land acquisition are not met. Meanwhile, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu said if the bill is not retained in its present form, it will choke country’s development as a whole. The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Amendment) Bill, 2015, with nine amendments, was passed in Lok Sabha (lower house of the parliament) but faces stiff opposition in the Rajya Sabha where it is in minority.
